A Brief History Of Internet Browsers

20 years ago in 1993 Mosaic became the first internet browser as we’ve come to identify them today. Mosaic was quickly overtaken by Microsoft Internet Explorer when Microsoft decided to strategically bundle the browser with its other computer software, which was dominating the market at the time.
Microsoft Internet Explorer was the dominant internet browser from that time until 5 years ago in 2008 when Google launched Chrome. When Chrome became available Microsoft Internet Explorer had a 68% market share, today it is about 25% and Chrome is at 43% world-wide. The other big browser – Firefox, which became popular when the government began to crack down on Microsoft – concerned that it was becoming a monopoly.
Here’s what the internet browser market share looks like today :
Google Chrome – 43%
Internet Explorer – 25%
Mozilla Firefox – 20 %
Other Browser – 12%
